Kitzbühel
Austria
Austrians have a special appreciation for this resort, founded in 1883, which is now one of the most prominent in Europe. It has hosted legendary Olympic skiers and major competitions, including the Hahnenkamm-Rennen, held at the end of January, which attracts athletes from around the world to take on the thrilling Streif downhill course. Throughout Kitzbühel’s long season, which runs from October to late April, its 576 hectares of skiable terrain across the spectacular mountains of the Kaiser massif are easily accessed by a fast lift system, offering slopes for all levels, especially intermediates. Below, the charming 16th-century village retains its medieval allure with cobblestone streets and colorful alpine and half-timbered buildings.
