Beaver Creek

United States

Located just 20 km from Vail, Beaver Creek is a city planned for visitor comfort and practicality, with escalators scattered throughout the village and heated sidewalks to prevent ice from accumulating on the ground. Perfect for family vacations, especially with children, it has one of the top ski schools in the United States with customized classes and special programs for young skiers. On the mountain, almost half of the 150 slopes are intermediate level. Don’t miss the most traditional treat at the resort: Cookie Time. Every day, at 3 pm, cookies are distributed at the base of the Haymeadow and Centennial Express lifts. But the fun doesn’t stop there. While adults venture out on the slopes, children let off steam tubing, skating at the rink in the center of the village or playing in the Kid’s Adventure Zone. With a complete infrastructure, it offers the convenience of ski-in/ski-out hotels and the charm and quality of local restaurants, which are distributed in three villages: Beaver Creek Village, Bachelor Gulch and Arrowhead. Getting between them couldn’t be easier, as you can ski from oneto the other or simply take the free shuttle that runs all day.

GASTRONOMY

On the mountain: full of options, the mountain of Beaver Creek has two restaurants that provide an experience far beyond gastronomy: Allie’s Cabin and Zach’s Cabin. To get to both, you have to board open carriages pulled by snowcats. For those who like variety, Spruce Saddle Lodge offers everything from tacos to sushi, pizza and sandwiches. Rustic Talons is known for its breakfast and lunch, serving European and American fare, while Mamies Moutain Grill serves burgers on its large, sunny terrace and Saddleridge serves steaks, seafood and game in a grand retreat. which houses the largest private collection of objects from the Wild West. In the village: Good opportunities to sample local flavors are the 8100 Mountainside Bar & Grill and Grouse Mountain Grill, which use ingredients from nearby ranches; the Buffalos, with excellent game meats; and the Golden Eagle Inn, which serves hamburgers with a mix of elk, venison, wild boar and antelope. There is also the Hooked with incredibly fresh fish; Mirabelle, with a kitchen specializing in French cuisine led by chef Daniel Joly; and Splendido at the Chateau, which serves the best of new American cuisine in an elegant setting.

WHAT TO DO BEYOND SKIING

There are guided snowshoe tours through McCoy Park — some end with wine tasting — and cross-country skiing and telemarking at the Nordic Center. In addition, there are good spa options to relax in after a day in the mountains, such as Allegria, Bachelor Gulch and Struck. At Vilar Performing Arts Center, there is a full cultural program with theater, musicals, dance and shows.

ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS

There is no shortage of fun activities for children here. In the village, they enjoy skating at the Beaver Creek Ice Rink. In the Kid's Adventure Zone, there is a special route where the little ones pass in the middle of Wild West style wagons and under Indian tents.

SHOPPING

The slopes and downtown are full of ski equipment and winter clothing stores, including the likes of Gorsuch, The North Face, Patagonia, Kjus and Burton. For jewelry and accessories, it's worth stopping by Betterridge, which has an exclusive selection of Bulgari, Rolex and Breitling pieces. Generation BC drives kids crazy with its toys, games and clothes.

NIGHTLIFE

The most famous après-ski is certainly the one at Coyote Café, popular even among the locals. Another lively spot is Dusty Boot, with live bands and good margaritas. To satisfy your hunger with a drink, head to C-Bar, Spruce Saddle Lodge, or Powder 8 Kitchen & Tap. The latter offers free s’mores to roast over an outdoor fire pit.
