Almost 500 kilometers south of the capital Santiago, in a well-preserved stretch of the Andes, Chillán is a winter center strategically positioned at the foot of the two volcanoes of the same name. The complex, close to the small town of Las Trancas, has hotels, spas and good restaurants. The ski slopes in Chillán deserve special attention. There are more than 35 kilometers of slopes – including the longest in the entire southern hemisphere, Tres Marias, with 13 kilometers of descents and incredible views of the region’s nature. For those looking for fun beyond the slopes, it is possible to book dog sledding or snowmobile rides through the woods.

To stock up on drinks and treats during the day, stop at one of the support points at the base of the mountain, such as Otto's and Tío Willy, or at the ski-only options, such as Club Buena Vista and Cafetería Garganta. The ski resort complex has three restaurants and an après-ski café. At Hotel Termas Chillán, Arboleda Restaurant creates authentic dishes with ingredients from the Ñuble region, offering an excellent dining experience for visitors. To enjoy a refined and elaborate menu, Bistrô Las Cabras offers a place with an intimate atmosphere that invites you to try the meats and pastas signed by Chef Juan Pablo Boschetti. Bar La Grieta and Café Muffin offer a more relaxed atmosphere, with a menu of cocktails and coffees, respectively, for a more relaxing afternoon or evening.
THINGS TO DO
The Chillán ski center has set aside an area of the mountains for snowmobiling and dog sledding, and also offers snowshoe hikes along wonderful trails. For beginners, the station offers personalized private and group lessons that adapt to your needs. For children between 8 and 10 years old, the Nevados Mini School offers an experience of learning while playing, the safest and most fun option for the little ones. For adrenaline lovers, the station offers heliski, a modality that takes the most experienced skiers by helicopter to areas where lifts cannot reach. Thanks to the privileged slopes of Nevados de Chillán, you can practice Nordic skiing, which corresponds to the original style of skiing, where the heel of the boot is not attached to the equipment. Close to the station, just 3 kilometers away, Termas Valle Hermoso has thermal pools, a spa, slopes for beginner skiers and a cafeteria/restaurant.
FOR KIDS
The Snow Garden is an exclusive space for children aged 3 to 6 to get in contact with the snow and participate in supervised activities; and the Mountain Park, for children between 6 and 12 years old, includes fun workshops and ski competitions.
NIGHT LIFE
Head to the Snow Pub in Las Trancas if you want to have fun in a typical Chilean bar with a pisco sour in hand. The bar at the Alto Nevados hotel is also a good option for a relaxing chat after a day of skiing.
